I never thought I would take part in a knitting club in my life. There’s a first time for everything, they say.
Zavod 3 is a Slovenian NGO based in Skofja Loka. Every week, they meet with women and kids guests in the Azilni Dom Vic facility in one suburb of Ljubljana.
They aim to involve refugees in activities that don’t require verbal communication.
The refugees present in the facility come from different countries of the Middle East, but a few from Africa as well. They’re all waiting for the status of refugees by the Slovenian government. While they’re waiting, they can’t leave the building.
The different ethnicities and beliefs, mixed with the frustration and the long stay confined, escalate from time to time in episodes of tension among the guests.
